MapleRidge/PittMeadows Torch Relay Feb. 8, 2010

As you may have heard, the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay is passing through Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows on February 8, 2010. On behalf of the District of Maple Ridge and City of Pitt Meadows, you are cordially invited to participate in our exciting celebration. The organizing team is planning festivities in the morning of February 8th in Maple Ridge and in Pitt Meadows. Attached to this letter you will find the route details for both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. We would like Sports Groups like yourselves to be a part of these events and ask that you to forward this request to your membership.

Events will begin in Memorial Peace Park at 6:15 am and conclude at 8:00 am. Local performance groups, dancers, and entertainment will be present along with festivities such as the unveiling of the Spirit of Wood carvings, Hometown Heroes, mini torch run, prizes and give-aways, refreshments and much more. Events in Pitt Meadows will run from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and include local performance groups, dancers, and entertainment will be present along with festivities such as the unveiling of the Spirit of Wood carvings, Hometown Heroes, mini torch run, prizes and giveaways, refreshments and much more. Please be advised that there will be rolling road closures along the Olympic Torch Relay route and motorists are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and prepare for delays while Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. These road closures will be in effect for up to half an hour at a time and are in place to ensure the safety and security of the Torchbearer and traveling convoy.
