CALL TO ACTION!

The Golden Ears Winter Club was established in 1956 and has a long and illustrious history of curling, camaraderie, and friendship among curlers and within the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. In 2000, the facility was moved into its present location on 105th Avenue. In 2006, the Golden Ears Winter Club assumed added financial responsibility for its operations including utility costs. Since 2006, costs have gone up for Hydro, Gas, Electricity, Water etc. We have now started charging our rental groups utility costs. In 2009, our utilities have continued to increase in costs and our membership has continued to decrease for the third year running. In other words, our fixed costs are outstripping our revenues.

Golden Ears Winter Club will complete the 2009-2010 curling season. However, without increased support from the club’s members, and an increase in overall membership, the future operations of the club beyond that can not be guaranteed. Within 30-60 days, GEWC needs to have in place a feasibility plan for the next 5 years to 2015. In the meantime, discussions with the City of Maple Ridge are scheduled for mid November and a general meeting of the membership is called for early January. Anyone interested in discussing these issues, proposing solutions, and helping to keep GEWC alive and healthy is urged to come forward to any staff member and/or any Board of Director.

Sincerely,

Your Friends in Curling, the GEWC Board of Directors.

Comunity Rebate Program
The Husky Mohawk Community Rebate Program is still in effect. When you make a retail purchase at one of their gas stations, convenience stores, or Husky House Restaurants and present the Rebate Program card, 2% of your purchase is given to the Golden Ears Winter Club.  Cards are available in the office for you to use to support GEWC. Cards will be available at the AGM June 13th at 4pm.

If you already frequent Husky and MOhawk stations, then this is a simple way to contribute to our club. If not, the marketing people behind the rebate are hoping you will give them a try from motivation to support curling at GEWC.

Visit their website for more information http://www.myhusky.ca/for_your_community/community_rebate_program.html
