Yes it hurts. I don’t know if we’ll ever get another chance. But I’d rather come this close and fail, then to not have had this huge opportunity.

- Richard Hart (Team Howard) reflecting on losing the Olympic Trials final in 2009 to Kevin Martin

I have a small suspicion that Grant Dezura (Team Pierce) of our club may be feeling this way today after losing his second BC Men’s provincial final yesterday to Team Cotter. We had a number of Maple Ridge residents make the final four in BC Men’s this year. Forgive me if I miss a player here but Dezura along with Jay Wakefield, Bryan Kedziora, Jay Peachy, Ron Leech and Sean Geall all came within inches of going to the Brier. Congratulations to all these high calibre athletes.

On the flip side I talked to some very satisfied C-Event winners from our club who competed at the Abbotsford Ladies this past weekend. Tracy Hill along with her teammates  Peggy Norman, Lindsay Shannon, and Sandy Jensen went 4-1 to win the final. Sandy Fister team with Glenda Wonnacott, Debbie Dubinsky and Lisa Speers were D-Event finalists after cruising along in the A-Event for most of the weekend. Our 3rd GE team led by Chris Berkey and teammates Marilyn Schell, Verna Patterson and Shannon Touchette didn’t make a final but they won the first prize of the spiel!!!

Curling is a great game but like most things we care about in life – can leave one feeling bitter-sweet depending on the expectations.

Congratulations and Condolences,

Guy
